Ify’s Smeaton Story

My experience working with Smeaton Healthcare has been genuinely fulfilling. Like any care role, it comes with its challenges, but none have been insurmountable.

What I truly enjoy about being a carer is the opportunity to express empathy and provide meaningful support to people who need it most. Being able to offer comfort, dignity, and quality care gives me a sense of purpose and fulfilment.

I love seeing the positive impact of my work, putting a smile on someone’s face, helping them feel safe, and knowing I have contributed to their wellbeing. Those moments remind me why I chose this profession, and they make the job deeply satisfying.

Being a sponsored worker can be demanding. One of the biggest pressures is the need to meet contracted hours, which sometimes can be physically and mentally challenging — especially when balancing work with family responsibilities.

However, Smeaton’s management has made the process easier by listening to staff concerns and offering flexibility where possible. They try to adjust shifts to help reduce some of the pressure, and that support is something I value greatly.

Even though the job can take a toll at times, the sense of responsibility to maintain my immigration requirements and the encouragement from the management keeps me going. Despite the stress, I continue to push forward because I am committed to my role and my future in this country.
